This listing is for 6 red / reddish-brown rocks, ranging from 3" - roughly 6"
on their longest axis. They illustrate different types of pockmarking along
their surfaces and exhibit a variety of interesting shapes. Also known as
"scoria" or "cinder", they were hand-picked directly from the Springerville
Volcanic Field, near the White Mountains of east-central Arizona.

Those pockmarks are scoria's most recognizable feature. When they were
expelled from volcanoes that were active here over a half million years ago,
hot gases were captured within the molten lava and trapped as it cooled,
leaving thousands of tiny "pores" within the rock itself. The red color is the
result of their iron content oxidizing during eruption (that's the water
vapor's contribution).

Lava rocks are ideal for use in aquariums and terrariums. They make
exceptional bases for planting succulents and air plants, too! For more
